A book on Conversation
Theodore Zeldin, who is a professor at Oxford, is recognized as one of the most important and original historians of our time. He has worked on the Second Empire in France, and his 'History of French Passions 1848-1945' is a 2000-page synthesis of French civilization. He has brought to bear his knowledge of France on a guide to the French people, 'The French', which analyses the attitudes of ordinary French women and men. He is also the author of the best-selling 'An Intimate History of Humanity'. He has recently published a short book on 'Conversation', based on a series of BBC lectures.
